Introducing Under: Depths of Fear
1917 is one of the most memorable times in the history of world war. The Western Front was badly damaged, while the soldiers were fighting and bleeding on the battlefield. Globiss Interactive used this theme as inspiration to develop the game Under: Depths of Fear. The player takes the position of a warrior who participated in the first world war. His nerves are traumatized and it is this that sends him into an endless nightmare.
Story
The game begins when Alexander Dockter is taken to a boat by a stranger. Dockter was pushed into the cellar and later passed out. When he regained consciousness, he noticed that the boat was dark, filled with ghosts. But worse than that, the water is pouring inside the compartment and there is a soldier named Lanky who shows up regularly, watching him.
In the process of finding a way out, Dockter often encounters information about the survival program 2. This program has the content of helping dead or vegetative soldiers to have a new life. What does Dockter have to do with this program, and is he part of the experiment? Only you can give the answer!

My first look at Under: Depths of Fear is a horror game. If you have looked through the posters or trailers from the publisher, you will see long, dark corridors and somewhere with the appearance of ghostly creatures. Following such content, you will have to navigate your character’s boat – the game’s play space in search of a way out, while dodging dangers.
Of course, Under: Depths of Fear has a deep plot. You’ll discover what Dockter is up to. The game has a bit of a puzzle element, forcing you to search for items to continue playing like pieces of paper containing information, or a key to open a door leading to another area.
While Under: Depths of Fear’s story is long and mysterious, with dialogue and text frequently popping up on the screen, there isn’t much of a tutorial. Only when you die will a hint appear on the screen telling you what to do to find the item in a troublesome context.
Making tough choices
Under: Depths of Fear is designed into levels. There are some mysteries or puzzles that need to be answered. Of course, you need to play to the best of your ability to continue the game. Clues or pieces of information will reveal a little about the door you should choose in the other corridor. They are identically designed, some with locks, some without. You will have to make a choice and hope that you are on the right track. If there is a mistake, you will face the monster, or a large stream of water that kills the character.
Sometimes, you will get a warning that the ship is slowly being submerged by sea water. You only have a short time to find a way out. Otherwise, the character will drown, causing you to replay the level.
Overall, the gameplay of Under: Depths of Fear is designed quite nicely. It contains many elements of drama, puzzle and timing. And the other lock doesn’t have to be opened with a key. A powerful enough gun can break the door completely!

Some levels of Under: Depths of Fear spawn monsters. You don’t have to search for items, or come up with a solution to a puzzle. All you have to do here is run away from the bloodthirsty monster. It’s looking for you!
From what I’ve seen, the monster’s limbs are quite long. It had trouble opening a door or bending over. Therefore, you can lie under the bed, table or close the door to escape its pursuit.
How does it feel to run away from something scary? That’s probably what Dockter felt when the memories of the war kept popping into his mind.
