Summer Catchers tells the story of a young man’s search for summer. The first scene of the game takes place when the boy wakes up, in the middle of cold and snowy weather. He didn’t remember anything in his mind, and only knew that he was looking for his own summer.
And then, the boy met a wolf who was a carpenter. He suggested that the summer he was looking for was an ocean, very far south. He could offer no more help than a wooden cart. And the boy’s summer search begins, even though it feels hazy.
Style play
Your summer quest takes place with the same car. You will use it to move south, trying to keep the character safe until he gets to where he wants to go.
Overall, Summer Catchers is quite like an off-road racing game. However, it only includes you and the dangers, there is no opponent to compete with. Deep ravines, sharp icebergs, steep slopes or soaring stairs. You will have to face and overcome them.
To do that, the carpenter has provided you with three tools, including: Bumper, Jumper and Booster. You will use these tools to help the car keep moving towards the end of each road.
The game system offers specific instructions and an actual practice period. You will quickly learn how to control, and when to use which tools.
Tools
There are 5 types of tools in Summer Catchers. Three types I mentioned earlier, and two will unlock when you pass some special stages. This element is quite interesting, as it signals to you that there are many more challenges ahead.
But, that’s not all I want to say. The tools in Summer Catchers are not a built-in function of the vehicle. It’s like an item type. You will have to buy to use. And if you use them indiscriminately on the go, you won’t be able to use them when encountering an obstacle. And like that, the car will be damaged, the character will be affected. You will lose and have to start over.
Tools are purchased with mushrooms, the main currency in Summer Catchers. You can earn them playing or completing quests.
Quest System
Many people consider that, Summer Catchers is the perfect combination of racing, rhythm and puzzle gameplay.
You will encounter NPCs during your move to the South. You will interact with them and make decisions. Every decision leads to a new challenge, a new journey. Sometimes, NPCs also ask for your help. It could be collecting items, searching for something, or solving some puzzles.
