My first impression was “this game is also called arcade”. Deadroom it’s brutally difficult, if you want to ask me about its brain hack.
Deadroom is a puzzle adventure game. In it you play the role of a strange Stickman whose task is to overcome deadly rooms, filled with dangers and enemies waiting.
The game currently has 20 levels. Each level is a confusing maze, and only ends when you find the Exit door to go to the next level. But it’s not just that. In that gray and white maze, there are many “cool” things waiting for you. Traps do not appear every once in a while, but in Deadroom, traps are a daily occurrence in the district. For example, part of scene 3, when you just appeared at the door, trying to look at it before you could figure it out, you were shocked by a green electric door in front of the source.
Or each scene has a lot of robots with the ability to fly, acting as guards of the room. They kept coming out and checking at a rather slow speed. When you are a bit close to it and think oh this slow now I’m done jumping up, no, suddenly the robot goes crazy and launches one shot at you, dissolving again.
The pitfalls are continuous, and each dish is a surprise of its own, not until the last minute can’t know what they can do to us. This is the heart-pounding, terrifying element of this game called “arcade”. Well, don’t believe the author, what an arcade, goosebumps all over here.
Colors are special signals
Deadroom uses simple 2D graphics. The main character is a Stickman with a strange face, like an alien. The scenery around the labyrinth room is mostly gray and white, a few other colors like the blue of the water, the green of the coins you need to collect, the orange of some dangerous robots, the red of the giant carpets… These colors appear as a kind of highlighting things to look out for along the way. Actually, when I was playing scene 1 at first, I often had a hard time identifying friends and enemies.
For example, if you see blue water, you will also be afraid of not knowing if you will go down (but no, you will only be shocked when there is electricity in the water), or see some bombs or something that is not clear gray and white. I got scared out of the robots but later found out that they only became explosive bombs when there was a signal of electric current running through the room… But after playing a few scenes, I got used to it, slowly understood the intention of the robot. game designer, no longer difficult to identify (but traps appear, they still die as usual).
